Connect Illinois – Broadband Infrastructure Funding Webinar
Several key Adams employees participated in the Connect Illinois – Broadband Infrastructure Funding Webinar February 13, 2020. The webinar was presented by Matt Schmit, Deputy Director for Broadband, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Illinois Office of Broadband.
As Deputy Director for
Broadband within the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic
Opportunity, Schmit administers the state’s Office of Broadband and Connect
Illinois grant program. Schmit previously served as a state legislator, leading
on such issues as infrastructure and economic competitiveness. He is also an
academic researcher, published author, and former university instructor and
independent consultant.
In office, Matt lead the push
for ubiquitous broadband access through creation of Minnesota’s Office of
Broadband Development and related Border to Border Broadband grant program.
Integration of 21st century infrastructure is a primary focus of his work and
research.
The Illinois Office of Broadband recently opened the application window for the first $50 million in funding. In collaboration with Illinois Extension Community and Economic Development, the office is hosting a series of webinars to help potential applicants, such as Adams, and other stakeholders understand the Connect Illinois program and the current funding round.
